History

More information on the history of gymnastics:

Gymnastics comes from the Greek word "gymnos" which means "naked". This indicates that the gymnastic exercises were originally performed naked. In the ancient culture of Greece, gymnastics was considered not only physical exercise, but also an integral part of education and training. Gymnasiums of Greece served as centers of spiritual and physical education of the city-state.

These activities include military exercises, sports competitions and other activities promoting a healthy lifestyle. For example, the ancient Olympic Games included gymnastics competitions, and these competitions were considered an important part of Greek culture.

Gymnastics was also popular in the Roman Empire, but its essence and purpose differed from that of Greece. In Rome, gymnastics was considered mainly as a part of military training.

Modern gymnastics developed in Europe in the 19th century, including Germany and the Czech Republic, and became one of the most important types of physical education and sports. During this period, gymnastics was developed based on a more scientific approach and became the main part of physical education programs.
